Outcast Guardians' League Book 2 Amelia Elias Books

Amelia Elias has penned three books in the Guardians' League series (Hunted, Outcast, and Chosen) and I can only hope that there will be more - I would especially enjoy Ronin's story. I was incredibly surprised when I started out with Hunted. I don't know what I was expecting...well, okay, I do - and admittedly I was jaded by years of disappointment in books from less commercially credited authors. I expected a mediocre (at best) paranormal romance with probably a bit more eroticism than I'd find in mass market paperback titles. What I got was an intriguing, interesting read with characters I truly enjoyed and a story I wanted to see continue.

So continue I did, to Outcast, Elias' second book in the Guardians' League series, and raised the curtain on the story of Eli and Renee. I was equally impressed - and this time, also a little flabbergasted. I wish I'd read this book when it was originally published. Why? Because had I, the similarities that exist between Eli's history and origins and Sherrilyn Kenyon's Acheron's history and origins would've given all the kudos to Elias for originality and brilliance.

That being said, don't disregard Elias' Guardians' League if you've already read Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. It's NOT just a mimicry of other's works. It's fantastic, has it's own aspects of originality, and in some ways, is better than others in the genre. Personally, I think Outcast in particular is a better read than Acheron (sorry, Kenyon) in the romantic pairing area, especially when comparing the female lead in Outcast, Renee, and her relationship and its development with Eli. They fit together in a way that Kenyon's mate for Acheron didn't (IMHO).

And speaking of Eli and Renee...woah, wow, and holy heck. It started out rocky, and several of the Guardian's don't exactly embrace Renee, as she was turned by an Outcast but sheltered by Eli. Eli has two choices - act as her Sire and protect her from potentially turning Outcast herself...or kill her. The conflict in him grows to titanic proportions as feelings for Renee that NO sire would or should have for his fledgling start to grow beyond anything he's ever had any experience with. And Renee, a young woman who'd been the poster child for normalcy as a human, is suddenly not just a new vamp, she's an extremely strong fledgling with skills other vampires don't develop for centuries - if at all. And adjusting to those changes with limited info coming from Eli and even Guardians hating her violently is stripping anything "normal" from Renee's life with startling insistence.

It was fantastic, really. Only the fact that it's NOT the most original premise for the arc of the series is keeping these books from a five star rating for me. Outcast is, however, even better than Hunted, the first in the series, and I truly hope that Elias plans to continue the Guardians' League series after Chosen. It would be a true short-change for readers who enjoy quality paranormal romance if she doesn't.

Outcast Guardians' League Book 2 Amelia Elias Books Reviews

Another great new vampire series. The men in both books are alpha yet likeable and the women do not get on the readers nerves yet are more than match for their mates! Loved it.
Can't wait for the follow up to this series. Very captivating from beginning to end. Couldn't put the book down.
Hunted and Outcast were my first exposure to this author. I like her writing and the way the characters are developed. I also liked how we got to see how both characters were thinking and feeling rather than being one sided. I am looking forward to the next book!
Well-written, likeable characters and interesting plot with a twist to the usual vampire romance I've read. Overall, I thought Eli and Renee's story was good but I was somewhat disappointed on the story's pacing. I read Chosen before this book and loved that story's fast paced. I was really looking forward to reading about Eli and Renee after their scenes in Chosen but this book was somewhat dragging to me. Though I did like them, I thought there was too much time spent on what the characters were feeling and what they were thinking of doing. I wanted more actual action from the characters because this author does write action scenes very well. I don't think I'll be reading the first book in this series about Diego since I did not like that character at all from his scenes in this book. On a side note, for those who follow Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters series, Eli's character and story reminds me of Acheron.
I was so intrigued by Eli in the first book HUNTED. He absolutely fascinated me, and sometimes stole the scene with his endless power, and great conscience.

In this book, he meets his match. I won't ruin the story, but if you love romance with drop your jaw love scenes, this is for you.

Eli should be a role model for every hero. Passion, and compassion. Men are always trying to figure women out. Those two words are the answers they seek. Study Eli guys!!!

Please Amelia....hurry with more.
I've read all three books in the series Hunted, Outcast and Chosen. There's nothing spectacularly new in the vampire lore, or the make-up of the vampire power structure. However, Amelia Elias does an _excellent_ job at character development. The characters are vibrant, and enjoyable. The plot is well developed and moves at a good pace. The erotic scenes are sexy without being overly explicit, and are well-balanced with the emotional development of the characters. I'm eagerly looking forward to more books in this series, ans well as more books in general, from this author.
This is a story of the love that can never be between Eli, old powerful vampire (or is he?) and Renee Hardin, innocent human now turned into a young (somewhat clueless) fledgling vampire, by an evil "outcast" vampire. Since Eli can't find anyone to deal with raising and training a fledgeling vampire who is tainted with outcast blood, Eli ends up having to take this responsibility on himself. Of course the vampire who trains you is supposed to be more of a father figure and not your lover which causes a lot of self-recrimination along the way on Eli's part. Naturally since Eli is such a stud muffin, Renee is not into the father figure thing and big time into the lover thing. Then again she's thinking that he's the big bad vampire that turned her so she is not going to let her hormones rule and get involved with Eli, but hormones can be pretty strong and so it goes, while bad things keep on chasing Renee and Eli. Will they have their happy ending and will love conquer all?
