About the 80% mark in the book there is a new twist and I couldn't put it down. Beautiful angsty romance turns suspenseful and thrilling. Caine Carraway vs. Braden Carmichael, not sure but I'm liking Caine. So thrilled to have gotten my copy from Netgalley for an honest review, I love this author's style.

Do I even have words for what I just read? YES I DO! This book was insane from page 1! I loved how the action just started right away. So complex and so heartbreaking and beautiful. It kept me awake until the wee hours of the night lol and I knew I had to get back to reality. #adultingsucks Lol I can sleep later …MUST…FINISH…BOOK! It was so hard to get through all the hurtful things he would say and thank goodness she had Effie because my gosh. Talk about GUT WRENCHING! If words could literally cut you his were the sharpest blade out there. I know they both have issues and they both try to do the best they can but ahhhh I wanted her to focus on herself and see where she could be on her own for a while. The way the story unfolded though was just beautiful and I understand why Caine is that way and why Alexa is a fighter. I WAS SO SHOCKED about her half-brother. I thought it would be him but then he hired a hitman my gosh and then confronting her dad. OH EM GEE! That is so brave. This story was perfection and literally shows you that hope is such a strong feeling and to always follow your intuition. I can’t wait for Henry and Nadia’s novella!

As sad as it was, sometimes there really was too much damage between people. Sometimes we were better apart than we were together.
This is a beautifully written stand-alone novel. It’s longer than the average novel, but that just means more time for the story to develop – and HOW!

Caine is a corporate giant, a strong, noble character. Alexa is a photographer's assistant when she unintentionally sabotages the photo shoot (of Caine) leading to a chain of events where she and Caine become enemies forced to spend time in each other's orbit.

Caine has secrets he will guard at all costs. Alexa represents risk - to Caine's sense of calm and his expectations for his business and personal future. The animosity between Caine and Alexa is well described. Their transformation from enemies to lovers is hot, but it doesn't resolve the very issues that created their initial "enemies" relationship. If you expect easy resolutions, you won't get them here. Resolutions are hard won, and worth waiting for. It might be a bit long for some readers, but I enjoyed it.

I read the sequel/companion novella, Villain first. It is supposed to be read second. That one had spoilers about HERO. Villain is about Caine’s friend Henry and there are crossover scenes between the two stories. So I knew Caine’s secret throughout HERO, even before it was revealed. Turns out, I knew NOTHING of where this novel HERO would go. WOW! I was so surprised! In a good way. Still, if you don’t want any spoilers, make sure you read HERO first.

I enjoyed the relationship building from enemies to lovers slow-burn-to-hot, and the surprises the author threw in. I recommend this novel. Equally, I enjoyed Villain which is short and sweet by comparison.
