All fans of Janet Evanovich's early Stephanie Plum series will absolutely LOVE this book!

This is a well written series with a woman with bad hair days, a sharp tongue, and a knack for mayhem. AN AFFAIR TO DISMEMBER is not your standard Stephanie Plum mystery series, but it has some similarities.... There is an obvious love triangle brewing, but nothing like the Plum series. The characters are quirky, but not slap-stick goofy. The mystery does have twists and turns until the final chapter. Even the relationships are far more sedate in a sizzling kind-of way. While the similarities are there.... this is NOT a book that will mirror the antics of mayhem like the Plum series.

Not to offer spoilers or tell you the whole story.... the reader will have plenty of laughs from the well-timed banter between Gladie and the hot chief of police, Spencer. Of course, there is the heart-warming protective nature the other man in Gladie's life, the very attractive and mysterious next-door neighbor, Holden, to get to know, too. Gladie's best friends are quirky, but not stupid quirky, and Gladie's grandmother might seem like a clairvoyant matchmaker, but she has some sharp-as-a-tack insight. Each chapter begins with a lesson on how to be the best matchmaker you can be, but you do see some relevance to the chapter.

I will admit, I LOVED this book! I laughed through most of it and I know I will read this again while I wait for the next installment of the series. Elise Sax is a rising star in the contemporary, chick-lit, romance/mystery genre. Trust me.... this book is a keeper and worth buying!! I will highly recommend this book to a friend and I highly recommend you get yourself a copy.

This series is silly, funny and great! It's comparison to Stephanie Plum is spot on. Not in storyline, but in style of humor. If you're tired of serious content or like me, tired of detailed sex scenes, give this a try. Each book just gets better.

Note, I started with this author by reading the unrelated title Bounty. That was excellent. Romantic, humor and action like the old movie Romancing the Stone.
I had to put my wonderful dog down a few months ago. He was my best friend. I have tried to read several books by my favorite authors since then and just couldn't do it. This wonderful book kept my interest and my mind didn't wander to poor old Chauncey. It got me reading again and I was barely able to put it down. Thank you to the author for this wonderful gift. The characters are well developed and you get to know them quickly. It is a very witty book with enough characters to keep you guessing and enough things happening to keep your interest. I must admit, I was actually surprised at the outcome. I look forward to the next book by this wonderful new author.
I can see where the comparisons to Janet Evanovich come from as Elise Sax has adopted the same breezy humorous style of writing with a knack for keeping the romance on a slow simmer. As in Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series there are two contenders for the heroines heart, and we are left rooting for one or both. My one complaint about the plot is that there were so many characters involved in the who-done-it that I didn't feel much interested in any of the suspects. But since there were so many characters to keep count of in this story, I was pretty sure there would be a lengthy series ahead. I will definitely read the second book in the series though, just to see where the heroine is headed in her career as a matchmaker and which hero she eventually picks.
This book has been a wonderful surprise! I am waiting for the next novel from Elise Sax. I liked her last book, but this one was on the same level as the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich. I laughed out loud several times while reading this book, something I haven't done with any other novels except Janet's. As I have previously mentioned, Gladie Burger is a "matchmaker" who seems to always end up having to solve little murders. The matchmaking scenario lends itself to many opportunities to indulge in hilarious situations. Some of these were exactly that. Hilarious! I loved this book and hope that Elise will be giving us another very soon! If you enjoy reading the Stephanie Plum novels, you'll like this one too! It's a winner!!

I came across this book because I had the third book in the series on my kindle that I received from NetGalley and after reading a few spoiler free reviews, I knew I had to read them.

Gladie is such a normal character. Usually the main characters in books are either damaged, weak, self conscience or something else. Gladie, while yes, she has a past, its a normal one...well kinda.

Gladie Burger is unstable, a junk food addict and an awesome awesome girl. I love Gladie so much. I read a few reviews about these books are there actually a lot of negative views on her. I don't get it she was great!

This story was AWESOME! Its hilarious, hot, and takes you on a thrill ride of mysterious but hot neighbors, murders, crazy people and so much more. I highly reccomend this book. It was such a great read. A perfect book for any situation. I loved it and I loved the second one and am really excited to start the next.
An Affair to Dismember by Elise Sax 3.5★

Stephanie Plum in Southern California (haven't read the Plum books but saw the movie). The mystery seemed more a back-story. And what was to take place in just a matter of a week seemed a lot longer. More like a month with chaos and trouble happening everywhere Gladie turned. I liked the interaction between Gladie and Spencer. The "mysterious" Holden hasn't impressed me.

Spoiler And even if this took place in under a week, it seemed weird that the two guys were there at the hospital room with her, both glaring at each other.End Spoiler.

This is a good quick read though. I just hope Gladie doesn't string the two guys along throughout the series like the Plum book. I really hope she's made her choice in which guy she likes more in the second book. In my opinion, I think it's Spencer.
